I masnadieri (The Bandits) is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Andrea Maffei, based on Die Räuber by Friedrich von Schiller. Dramma lirico in four parts. Carlo is forced to admit to her, and to his father, his role as leader of the robbers. His lover, Amalia, is sung on this recording by Venezuelan soprano Lucrecia Garcia. Maffei himself worked to complete the libretto of the Schiller opera with the composer.
Musicologist Julian Buddenwho describes Maffei’s libretto as “indigestible”,  agrees with this assessment when he states that, along with Salvadore Cammaranothe librettist employed by the composer for the first time in to write Alzirathere was “an exaggerated regard on Verdi’s part for the librettist” and he continues: Otello — La Scala Otello: YouTube has this performance.
It has been revived from time to time in the 21st century. The girl declares that she is willing to marry him, in spite of his life of perdition; but Carlo, overcome by shame, rather than drag her into disgrace, stabs her with a dagger and goes to give himself up.
