Right now, I live half a mile away from my old middle school, in Palmetto Bay, a suburb of Miami, with my husband, daughters, dogs, and cats. The book ‘Fade to Black’ is a ‘who did it’ novel, that will leave you wanting to read more, and wondering more.

I struggle with the character of Daria. I disliked how Alex had Hiv at a young age. He says, “One thing about having a limited life expectancy, it makes you more willing to take risks. However, I missed an involvement of parents, officials, and medical staff, and felt a void in the lack of any friends whatsoever for Alex before the assault and during his hospitalization.

Though I believe these would have strengthened the story, I recommend Fade to Black to teens and adults!

As you can tell, this really resonated with me. One thing that I didn’t like about this book is that it switches to a different language for one sentence here and alec but otherwise the rest of the wording is in English.

Alex is a new student in a small town school where everyone knows he is HIV positive. Clinton was seen in the vicinity of the crime that morning. It changes from the black and white conceptions of “people who are vade people with AIDS are evil” or “HIV positive people should be quarantined”.

Each is struggling to deal with something huge, and none of them are really equipped to deal with it. And when that happens you may have to forget one fact because the person who is telling the story now does not know what happened as well as the first person to tell the story.
